Former Charlotte Flight, Nicholas Wesley, is currently an assistant Strength and Conditioning coach for Winston-Salem State University (WSSU). Wesley serves the cross country, track and field, women’s basketball, and football teams at the university. Wesley performs these duties while also a student himself, at WSSU, pursuing a degree in Therapeutic Recreation. His workload also includes serving as a facility supervisor and personal trainer.
Before Wesley’s time at WSSU, he served as Director of Strength and Conditioning for Filling the Gap Athletics (FTG) in Charlotte, NC. Wesley’s knowledge of sports performance and functional training helped FTG create vigorous training programs that developed athletes associated with a wide range of sports. FTG Athletics offered speed, agility and explosion training; a customized weight lifting program; core and stability training; flexibility and balance training; as well as tips and techniques on improving overall athleticism.
Wesley utilized diverse programs to improve athletes’ overall skill set. He holds certifications with Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) personal training and group exercise. His passion for track and field grew while running for the Flights. As a young adult, Wesley continued his training with Charlotte Flights Head Coach, AJ, and competed for Coach AJ’s Team Velocity.
Wesley is grateful for Coach AJ guiding his steps into coaching, training and athletic performance. “Coach AJ gave to me and I chose to give back to others,” says Wesley. “Go Flights!”
Note: Coach Wesley currently trains WSSU Junior Raven Covington, a Charlotte Flights Alum. Raven is a 2014 60 meter national qualifier and participated on the WSSU runner up 2014 4×100 meter relay team. Wesley also trains Cameron Sullivan, a WSSU Junior, who lettered in football at the cornerback position, assisting the Rams to a 9-2 record this season. Cameron is a product of FTG Athletics program in Charlotte, NC.
